108 Sun Salutations
Celebrating the summer solstice on 23rd June 2018 at 8:01am
The Summer Solstice and 108 Sun Salutations
For this years summer solstice, to celebrate the longest day of the year, we’re putting on an amazing Sun Salutation Workshop. Never been seen before at Liberty Wellbeing so we’re thrilled that all the teachers be present to host this three hour event in aid of the Pilgrims Hospice.
Starting early, at one minute past 8am, we’ll begin a series of 108 Sun Salutations in total. This will be lead by all of our teachers, in rotation and you can take part in all or just some of those whole rounds.
The Pilgrims Hospice
All the profits will go to the Ashford Pilgrims Hospice so please give generously on the day. We’ll be setting up a Just Giving Page too for those of you who want to either pay online, or can’t make it on the day but would still like to make a contribution.
The number’s significance is open to interpretation, but 108 has long been considered a sacred number in Hinduism and yoga. According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or sacred sites, throughout India. And there are also 108 Upanishads and 108 marma points, or sacred places of the body.
We shall start t 8:01am (seems the only time we could choose with the figures 108 in it!) on 23rd June. We think it’ll take around two and a half to three hours to complete so we’ll work in relays and you can come and go as much as you want to commit to. There will be all the teachers on hand to help you get a place lined up and provide tea and cake too. We anticipate it being quite a party atmosphere!
The event will be held at Brook Village Hall, in Brook. The postcode is TN25 5PE however the village is very small. If you drive in from the William Harvey Hospital end, there is a crescent of houses on the left and the hall is on the right. If you get to The Honest Miller pub, you’ve gone too far. The hall has the potential for us to be outside if it’s a nice morning, but equally we could all fit in the hall too.
Please book a place so that we know how many to expect and you can either donate on the day with cash or visit our Just Giving Page to make a donation online.
Taking relays, and skipping off to teach their regular classes, this event will be taught by Sam, Theresa, Hannah and Jennie.
