A Six Week Mindfulness Course

We have a six week mindfulness course held on Saturday mornings starting in May. Mindfulness may be new to you, but it’s been around for 2,500 years and has been practiced by millions of people around the world. It’s a way of finding some peace in a busy life, or even letting go of anxiety and depressing thoughts.

Who is the Course For?

If you find all the varied offerings of ‘mindfulness’ to be confusing but know that it has the potential to help you, then this course is for you. Perhaps you’ve been put on the waiting list for counselling by your GP and want to get started in the meantime. Or maybe you’ve read some books or listened to podcasts and want to know more. There’s nothing quite like time spent with a knowledgable teacher to bring it all to life.

Mindfulness is a way of dealing with the vagaries of life, of coming up with an appropriate response and reacting less so that our feeling of peace increases. It’s a simple technique however can take a little practice to master, but it’s been proven to help ease the symptoms of depression as effectively as medication

About the Teacher

Jennie is an experienced mindfulness teacher, therapist and meditation practitioner. She works with members of the public in workshops and retreats, see’s clients individually as well as teaching in large institutions such as Universities and prisons. Jennie will be able to gently guide you step by step and share her knowledge and understanding, helping you get the maximum benefits out of your mindfulness practice.

Course Structure

Week One: Awareness of Breathing and Body Scan
Week Two: Paying Attention to Thoughts and Emotions
Week Three: Mindfulness in Every Day Life
Week Four: Finding Pleasure in the Every Day
Week Five: Self Compassion
Week Six: Compassion for Others and Moving Forwards

You’ll be expected to practice meditation at home for ten minutes twice per day throughout the course. There will be practical exercises and audio files for you to complete at home too. This will form an important part of your learning experience and you will benefit hugely from completing all the homework.


The next course will run on Wednesday evenings, 7:30 to 9:30pm starting 25th July, 1st, 8th, 22nd, 29th August and 5th September. This is six weeks which spans 7 calendar weeks, allowing for a week off half term at the midway point.


There is a maximum of 12 places allocated on this course.

Venue & Cost

The course venue is Kennington WI Hall, 229 Faversham Road, Kennington TN24 9AN. The cost is £99 per person.
